Dysport™ is the newest wrinkle treatment to be approved by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) for use in the United States and Dr. Cantrell has been the first in the area to offer this new alternative to her patients. It has been safely used in Europe for years, and now patients of Med Spa Plus can enjoy its many benefits. Dr. Cantrell has been using Dysport™ since the end of June with no adverse effects. There has been a positive reaction from all of the patients, many of them overjoyed, stating a more “natural looking” appearance. “I interpret this to mean that there seems to be more of a blending, instead of a line of demarcation where the product stopped working,” said Dr. Cantrell. Another reason for the high reviews may be that it costs about 20% less than Botox, on average. “Dysport relaxes the facial muscles that cause wrinkles” said Dr. Cantrell. “Dysport is made from the same active ingredient as Botox Cosmetic, but it is a smaller molecule that may act more quickly and last a bit longer in some patients.” Dr. Cantrell has observed that Dysport’s onset seems to start earlier, but then completes the integration more gradually, later than the seasoned Botox user expects. People who expect the Botox full effect on day 7 become concerned until the Dysport gradually takes full effect on day 10. If this has a longer lifespan, in addition to the natural-looking results, and if it can continue to be a more affordable alternative, Dysport will likely replace Botox as the number one wrinkle treatment. While Dr. Cantrell has seen nearly 50 patients in the past two months for Dysport, she is also treating patients with Botox. The new wrinkle reducer merely adds another option in the war against aging. Clinical trials have shown that some patients noticed that a single treatment with Dysport lasts longer than Botox – perhaps four months or more, compared to just three.
